SPARKS Mentoring Program Site Coordinator

SPARKS is an after‑school, neighborhood‑based mentoring program for elementary and middle‑school students, provided by the Orono School District and coordinated by the Community Education department. The goal is to provide extra time and support to help the district close the achievement and opportunity gap for students with academic and financial need. A licensed teacher, the site coordinator, and community mentors work to create connections, provide academic support, teach and coach organizational skills, and encourage students.

Job Summary
  • Coordinate site logistics with the host organization and manage the ongoing relationship with the host site.
  • Plan logistics by determining the activity schedule, coordinating and leading general activities, snacks, and periodic family events.
  • Supervise volunteers and children during program hours (2:45‑5:15 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Tuesdays and Thursdays).
  • Communicate with students and families to encourage participation.
  • Recruit volunteers, manage their scheduling and communication, and engage community partners to host periodic family events and support volunteers.
  • Assist licensed teachers with the implementation of the academic portions of the program.
Qualifications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with others.
  • Understanding of the role of volunteers and ability to collaborate with volunteers and the host site.
  • Commitment to supporting the whole person in pursuing high levels of mastery of skills within the program.
Availability

2–4 days a week on site 2:45 – 5:15 pm, plus additional preparation time from home.

Working Conditions

Program held at a community location in Maple Plain on Mondays and Wednesdays or Long Lake on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Compensation

$16.66 – $19.81 per hour
