Mountain Valley Community School is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher to join our dedicated team. We are looking for an educator who fosters curiosity about the world, builds meaningful relationships with students, and creates engaging learning experiences that promote critical thinking, civic responsibility, and historical inquiry.
The successful candidate will:
- Hold or be eligible for appropriate Maine Department of Education certification.
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
- Design and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with the Maine Learning Results.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school learners.
- Integrate reading, writing, discussion, and technology into social studies instruction.
- Promote critical thinking, collaboration, and inquiry through the study of history, geography, civics, economics, and cultures.
- Utilize assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student progress.
- Collaborate with grade-level and interdisciplinary teams to support student success.
- Build strong partnerships with families and maintain regular communication regarding student learning.
- Contribute positively to the school community through participation in professional learning, school initiatives, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Maine Department of Education certification (or eligibility) appropriate for teaching middle school social studies.
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of best instructional practices for adolescent learners.
- Experience with BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) preferred.

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $44,860 to $87,175 Per Year
