As a member of the Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) team, the MEOC Advisor conducts extensive recruitment activities in Penobscot and Washington counties, especially around Bangor, Orono, Old Town, and Downeast Maine, to fully enroll a proportional share of the funded number of MEOC participants for the MEOC grant. The MEOC Advisor provides academic, career, educational advising, and academic support through high school graduation, the admissions and postsecondary enrollment process, and financial aid and scholarship application process.

Services are provided in‑person and virtually to both groups and individual participants.

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, social work, or related field
• Two years of previous experience relating to and working with disadvantaged youth or adults, schools, or community agencies, or equivalent
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently of direct supervision
• Ability to work simultaneously with multiple projects, deadlines, and agencies
• Ability to travel extensively within the service area; a driver’s license is normally required

• Preference for individuals who have succeeded in overcoming the disadvantages of circumstances similar to those served by MEOC
• Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Zoom
