Maine Families Visitor/Parent Educator

Through the Maine Families Program, this Parent Education Professional delivers the Parent as Teachers evidence-based model which includes increased parent knowledge of development, early detection of developmental delays, increased school readiness and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Parent Education Professionals also build protective factors that serve as buffers to reduce risk to young children, prenatal to age five, and families.

These protective factors include parental resilience, knowledge of child development and parenting skills, social connections, and social‑emotional competence of children. This model is designed to be delivered in the homes of parents or virtually through Zoom. This position works with families in Lincoln County. This position will travel throughout Lincoln County with a home base in the County Extension Office in Waldoboro.

Position Type: Full‑time 40 hours per week, fiscal year, professional position contingent on funding and successful job performance

Salary: $46,000- $50,000

Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, child and family studies, human services, social work, and a minimum of one year of supervised work experience with young children and/or parents or an unrelated bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment.
  • Demonstrated skills in establishing rapport and assessing the needs of parents and young children.
  • Experience working with and delivering programs to diverse participants.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel with a personal vehicle (travel reimbursed at the current grant rate).
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a home‑based setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience connecting families to local organizations and services.
  • Experience in delivering parent education.
  • Knowledge of maternal‑infant health and dynamics of child abuse and neglect.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
