Camden Hills Regional High School, a state-of-the-art energy efficient facility that includes a wind turbine and solar panels, serves approximately 700 students in grades 9-12. The school offers an incredibly expansive array of educational experiences for students and is dedicated to hiring and retaining a high-quality, diverse staff.
Position Summary:
This position will provide support to a special education student participating in a school sponsored sport. This role will help to guide positive peer interactions, redirect focus as needed, and monitor and support medical needs. This position is expected to attend team practices and all games, working an anticipated 10-20 hours per week for the duration of the football season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students in grades 9-12 with identified special education needs, including those related to executive functioning, social emotional regulation, and physical/medical needs.
- Assist with shoe tying and application of football equipment and padding as needed.
- Collaborate with coaches.
- Provide instruction in sportsmanship, organization, and completing routines.
- Aid in maintaining accurate records of data, interventions, and student progress.
- Promote positive social interactions.
- Ride the bus with students to and from away games.
Qualifications/
Skills:
- Understanding of behavioral interventions, high school athletics, and special education practices.
- Effective communication and active listening.
- Organizational skills.
- Ability to engage with students, home, school, colleagues, and the community to support student learning and wellbeing.
- Understanding of the importance of maintaining student confidentiality.
Requirements:
- Background check, including fingerprinting.
- Maine Department of Education Education Technician II required.
- Special Education experience preferred but not required.
Pay and Benefits:
Pay is $22.32 - $24.18 per hour based on experience, within the parameters of the applicable contract. Eligible to contribute to a 403(b) retirement plan. This is a Maine PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) covered position.
