Help our youngest learners build the social and emotional foundation for everything that comes next. Half a mile from the Atlantic Ocean and just 15 minutes from Portland, Jameson Elementary is a close-knit school of 150 +/- students where every child is known by name, by every adult. We're looking for a full time Elementary School Counselor to join our team and help lead a school-wide culture of connection, resilience, and growth for our PreK-2 learners.

A portion of your time will be spent co-teaching social skills lessons alongside classroom teachers as part of our Tier 1 counseling program, with the remainder devoted to individual and small-group support through our Tier 2 and Tier 3 programs. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with administration and teaching staff who genuinely value what school counseling brings to a building, and to a child's whole future.

What You'll Need

• A Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field
• A valid (or eligible) State of Maine Certificate in school counseling (075)

What You'll Do

• Lead the counseling program for grades PreK-2 in close collaboration with teachers and administrators, including designing curricular materials that meet learning objectives.
• Build genuine, trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and the broader community.
• Provide short-term individual and group counseling, available for self-referrals and referrals from staff and families alike.
• Deliver evidence-based social-emotional learning programs like Second Step, in the classroom and in small groups.
• Respond to crisis situations with calm, practiced support when they arise.
• Consult collaboratively with families, school staff, and outside professionals on behalf of students.
• Uphold the American School Counselor Association, ASCA, Code of Ethics
• Welcome new students and help them settle into the Jameson community.
• Support students through educational and personal challenges.
• Manage/Coordinate 504 plans
• Help students move smoothly from grade to grade, partnering with teachers on thoughtful placement.
