Great Salt Bay is looking for a dedicated and flexible Special Education Teacher to join our behavior program beginning in the 2026-27 school year. We are a team that enjoys working together and having fun, while remaining deeply committed to the success and growth of our students.
AboutThe Role
This position is based at Great Salt Bay School and involves working with a diverse group of students in grades Pre K through 4. We are looking for a professional who thrives in a collaborative environment. The majority of our students are supported in inclusive settings, and you will play a key role in ensuring their success within the general education framework.
KeyDetails
- Collaborative Environment: You will work alongside the school’s Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and numerous experienced paraprofessionals to support student needs.
- Student Support: Responsibilities include developing and implementing positive behavior support plans and providing Specially Designed Instruction (SDI).
- Service Delivery: Support is provided primarily in inclusive settings, with some pull out services as described by each individual child’s IEP plan.
- Salary and Benefits: The teacher contract offers a generous salary and benefits. The district will pay 99% of health insurance (single) and 85% (family) with other varying options depending on your unique situation. Special Educators also receive a generous stipend. All IEP meetings are scheduled by an administrative assistant. There is a dedicated and experienced special education director who is devoted purely to this one school building.

SalarySalary is based on experience and the Damariscotta Area Teachers’ Association Contract. The range of salary is from $50,543 to $88,238.
QualificationsThe candidate must have Maine Department of Education Special Education Certification (
282 PK-6, Teacher of Students with Disabilities). We are open to a conditionally certified candidate. Experience or strong interest in behavior intervention and positive support strategies. A passion for working with students from Pre K through middle school and a desire to be part of a supportive, success oriented team.
