MSES and MCSCS REACH After school Program - Instructional Specialist

MSAD 54 is seeking applicants for REACH After school Program Instructional Staff at Margaret Chase Smith Community School (MCSCS) and Mill Stream Elementary School (MSES) for the  school year. Instructional Staff are responsible for planning and leading engaging, hands-on learning experiences that extend and enrich the school day. Working with a consistent group of students, Instructional Staff create a safe, welcoming, and trauma-responsive environment while delivering high-quality academic enrichment aligned with student interests and program goals.

This position is ideal for educators and professionals who enjoy designing meaningful learning experiences and inspiring students through creativity, exploration, and relationship-building.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for an assigned instructional club or enrichment area.
  • Deliver hands-on learning experiences that promote student engagement, creativity, and skill development.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and trauma-responsive learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Maintain classroom routines, behavior expectations, and a positive learning climate.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development as required.
  • Follow all Maine DHHS Child Care Licensing Rules, district policies, and REACH program expectations.
  • Complete attendance, activity, and other required program documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, teaching certificate, professional license, or recognized certification in the instructional content area being taught.
  • Experience working with school-age children in an educational, youth development, or child care setting preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently plan and facilitate engaging instructional experiences.
  • Commitment to trauma-responsive and relationship-centered practices.
  • Selected applicants must successfully complete the Maine DHHS fingerprinting process and the Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check (CHRC).
Schedule & Compensation
  • Must be available Monday-Thursday during the school year.
  • Program hours are approximately 2:15-5:15 p.m.
  • Rate of pay: $20.00 per hour.
  • All REACH staff are eligible to participate in Maine's Early Childhood Educator Supplemental Wage Program through MRTQ. Depending on education and Career Lattice level, staff may qualify for an additional $240, $360, or $540 per month.
