Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit to strengthen the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teaches Art & Handwork classes for seniors and children after school on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Additional programming is an option going forward.
  • Works closely with the Department Director to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
  • Works closely with the Program & Summer Camp Director to create and execute art programs and/or art curriculum for the advancement of the YMCA while ensuring safety, licensing standards, and the YMCA's reputation and providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Collaborates with other staff and leads in preparation, setup, and delivery of quality art programming and activities in a structured, positive environment.
  • Supervises and actively engages art class participants during class, manages group dynamics to minimize disruptive behavior, and fosters positive social skills.
  • Prepares adequately for art classes by setting up supplies in advance and ensures equipment is clean, sanitized and functioning properly.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with staff, participants, and community partners and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Promotes YMCA programs and services to existing and potential members and recruits new participants.
  • Recruits, trains and coordinates volunteers to ensure quality instruction and adherence to YMCA standards.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment and keeps areas organized. Assists with cleaning as needed to assure children and families are entering a welcoming environment.
  • Creates a safe, and welcoming environment where participants can build confidence, teamwork, independence, and problem-solving skills.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities.
  • Provides administrative support as needed and maintains accurate attendance records. Document all incidents and accidents in appropriate locations.
