Anticipated Special Education Teacher – High School Student Support Program
Help students reconnect with learning, build confidence, and prepare for life beyond high school.
The Wiscasset School Department is seeking an innovative, compassionate, and collaborative Special Education Teacher to join our High School Student Support Program. This position serves students whose IEPs include behavioral, social‑emotional, executive functioning, and self‑regulation needs. Through individualized programming, strong relationships, and evidence‑based practices, our goal is to help students build the academic, behavioral, and life skills necessary for long‑term success.
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with students, families, teachers, counselors, administrators, and related service providers to develop individualized supports that promote student engagement, independence, and positive outcomes.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Provide specially designed instruction in academic, executive functioning, behavioral, and social‑emotional skill development
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students and families
- Utilize evidence‑based instructional and behavioral strategies to support student growth
- Monitor student progress and use data to guide instructional planning
- Collaborate with school staff and community partners to coordinate individualized student supports
- Create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment that encourages student success
- Maine Department of Education Certification (282) or eligibility
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's preferred)
- Experience working with secondary students preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Wiscasset School Department Teacher Contract and include health insurance, MainePERS, paid leave, and professional development opportunities.
