START DATE:

RSU 48, a PK-12 school district located in beautiful mid-coast Maine, invites you to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools. This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary, student-centered educational leader to serve one of Maine’s most special Pk-8 school communities with 356 students (PK-8) and 92 staff in a meaningful three-day-per-week role and oversee the tuition of 210 9-12 students to local area high schools.

Total enrollment is 566 students. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

The school’s mission and vision are clear:
Great Salt Bay School is a joyous, safe, and respectful community where students are inspired to discover their unique talents, build resilience, and become lifelong learners. The next superintendent will champion this promise through thoughtful leadership, high expectations, inclusive planning, excellent teaching and learning, with clear and respectful communication.

RSU 48 is surrounded by a dedicated and supportive school board, staff, parents, and community. The Superintendent will be an accessible, collaborative, and an optimistic leader who values these partnerships; communicates with clarity, honesty, and integrity and understands the distinctive strengths of a close-knit PK–8 district.

Leadership Profile
  • An experienced, motivational, and innovative leader who can guide a small regional school system through thoughtful, localized change.
  • A visionary strategist and organizer who uses inclusive planning, sound decision-making, and effective instructional practices to advance the district’s mission.
  • An excellent communicator who listens carefully, leads across the educational community, celebrates diversity, and maintains open and honest dialogue.
  • A gifted manager with a strong understanding of the K–8 educational landscape and the ability to steward resources responsibly.
  • A respected educator—ideally with teaching and administrative experience—who has a record of engaging and challenging all students through a rigorous, supportive curriculum.
Life in Damariscotta and Mid-Coast Maine

Qualifications
  • Maine State Superintendent Certification (010), or eligibility for certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree and advanced academic degree(s) demonstrating excellence in educational achievement.
  • Leadership experience in educational settings, including schools, colleges, or universities.
