Long-Term Substitute Science Teacher

Fryeburg Academy, a 700-student day and boarding high school located in Western Maine/the Mount Washington Valley, seeks an innovative Science teacher for Semester II of the 2026-27 school year. This long-term substitute position involves teaching five classes during the second semester.

• Teach four sections of Chemistry at the college-prep level
• Teach a course on New England Agriculture
• Serve as an advisor for a group of 10
  -14 students

• Ability to work with, encourage, and inspire students to seek continuous growth
• A willingness to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of abilities
• An understanding of how students learn
• Ability and desire to plan high-quality instruction, assess student learning, reflect on pedagogical effectiveness, and adjust approach as needed
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining high professional standards
• Basic computer literacy skills

• A bachelor’s degree in science or education is required.
• A degree in Chemistry or a physical science is preferred; a master’s degree is also preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and developed, varied strategies for teaching Chemistry.
