Preschool Special Education Teacher

The Preschool Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to young children with developmental delays and disabilities, fostering their growth in communication, social skills, motor development, and basic academics. This role involves working collaboratively with families, therapists, and other educators to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

• Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on detailed assessments of each child’s strengths, needs, and developmental goals.
• Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
• Use behavior analytic teaching/instructional methods and appropriate materials to meet the diverse needs of students with various disabilities.
• Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other specialists to coordinate services and reinforce learning goals.
• Provide supervision and training of Educational Technicians & Behavior Health Professionals.
• Monitor and document each child’s progress regularly, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary.
• Communicate effectively and regularly with families to support learning and address concerns.
• Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued and supported.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment that meets all regulatory requirements.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and stay current with early childhood special education best practices.

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Certification or licensure in Special Education as required by the state of Maine.
• Experience working with preschool-aged children with developmental delays or disabilities.
• Strong knowledge of early childhood development and special education practices.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting young children and their families.
