Power Production Worker

Worker will perform operations and maintenance activities in various power production facilities in a safe, efficient and reliable manner directly contributing to the mission of the producing power at a cost per megawatt-hour that is favorably competitive with alternative sources. The worker will typically perform either plant operations or plant maintenance activities, but occasionally will work in different areas of emphasis.

Job Responsibilities:

The worker is responsible to operate the main and auxiliary generating equipment and machinery and other plant –related equipment; to perform predictive, preventive and reactive mechanical and electrical (limited to 600V) maintenance to the equipment and machinery; and to perform civil and structural maintenance and construction activities.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate hydro-electric generating station main, auxiliary, and miscellaneous equipment and machinery. Maintain hydro-electric generating station, main, auxiliary, and miscellaneous equipment and machinery including the performance of maintenance to low voltage electrical equipment and machinery (limited to 600V). The performance of electrical maintenance is contingent upon the successful completion of the electrical Apprenticeship Training Program. Maintain dams, powerhouses and other buildings, gate structures and gates, fish passage facilities, trash racks, penstocks, log booms, etc.

    Perform temporary lead worker duties, as assigned, to direct other employees in the performance of maintenance activities. Performing switching and tagging duties in the power generating stations and substations. Prepare maintenance and operating reports and documents, as required. Assist and support contractors performing work and providing services at, and about, the generating stations and associated property. Comply with safety and environmental rules and regulations, hazardous materials and oil spill prevention programs, and other applicable Company policies or plans.

    Assist in providing on-the-job training and overseeing work performance.

Working

Schedule:

Forty hours per week, eight hours per day, normally Monday through Friday.

Required Skills:

A high school diploma or GED, and related experience as a minimum. Preference will be given to a 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience. A valid Maine driver's license. Pre-employment physical examination. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Acceptance into this position requires the successful completion of the Electrical Apprenticeship Training program.

Budget: $36.02/hr. per the CBA
