Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
The Sustaining Engineering Director will lead a team dedicated to maintaining and enhancing our existing products. The role requires a leader who can guide engineers through technical and business decisions while fostering talent development, ensuring quality, and upholding code compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, leadership, and project management, with a commitment to technical excellence.
This position demands exceptional problem‑solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions, as well as with external suppliers and customers, to drive continuous improvement and operational success.
- Lead and develop the Sustaining Engineering team to ensure effective support for existing products, driving design enhancements, quality improvements, manufacturability optimization and cost reduction initiatives.
- Oversee engineering change management processes, ensuring seamless implementation of design modifications while minimizing disruptions to operations and sales.
- Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address product performance issues and customer‑reported concerns to enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality and supply chain to optimize production and installation processes.
- Meet cost reduction and efficiency improvement objectives while maintaining product integrity and quality.
- Define, monitor and leverage key performance metrics such as cost savings, efficiency gains and throughput to assess and enhance team performance.
- Develop and manage department and intellectual property budgets and activities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, actively engaging in design reviews, problem solving and planning events.
- Stay current with industry regulations and ensure all sustaining engineering activities adhere to applicable standards.
- Collaborate with Marketing to identify and prioritize product line enhancements and extensions, developing and implementing innovative solutions that align with customer needs.
- Work closely with the New Product Development team to ensure a smooth transition of new products into sustained production.
- Demonstrated success in leading and mentoring engineering teams while fostering cross‑functional collaboration to drive business objectives.
- Technical proficiency in mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
- Strong expertise in root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Experience with engineering change management, product lifecycle management and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives, manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities, with experience influencing and aligning stakeholders across all levels.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- PE license or desire to achieve one is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 10 years in a technical leadership role.
- Strong understanding of industry standards, codes, regulations, CAD software and simulation tools.
- Experience with ERP and PLM systems.
- Proficient with MS Office suite.
- Occasional, short‑duration travel.
