Eligibility Specialist II – Office for Family Independence, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), South Paris, Maine. Salary: $21.54 – $30.14 per hour. Position Number: , , . Grade 21 (Professional & Technical Services). Partial telework eligible with management approval. Not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions.
Core Responsibilities- Connect Maine residents to key programs (Maine Care, SNAP, TANF).
- Evaluate information and apply program standards to determine complex eligibility decisions.
- Perform intermediate mathematical calculations for multiple programs.
- Use multiple technology systems to enter, review, and verify eligibility-related data and documentation.
- Explain program rules, requirements, and decisions to applicants/recipients in writing, over the phone, and in person.
- Review and process information received electronically or by mail for completeness and compliance.
- Connect individuals with additional programs and services that support health and well‑being.
- Engage in outreach efforts to provide program information, accept applications, and determine eligibility.
- Gather evidence, develop reports, and represent the Department at administrative hearings.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with diverse populations.
- Evaluate information and apply standards to determine eligibility for multiple programs simultaneously.
- Enter, review, and verify eligibility data in system(s).
- Communicate program rules and decisions clearly to applicants and recipients.
- Process electronic or mailed information for completeness and compliance.
- Connect individuals with additional support programs.
- Conduct outreach to accept applications and determine eligibility.
- Gather evidence, produce reports, and represent DHHS at administrative hearings.
- Utilize strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse communities.
- Four (4) years of combined education, training, and/or progressively responsible experience in a social services setting, demonstrating interviewing and data gathering skills for eligibility determinations.
- or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Business Administration, or related field.
- Paid holidays: 13.
