Speech-Language Pathologist

Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist works with students to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. The SLP collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, and other educational professionals to support student communication skills and academic success. Services are provided in accordance with federal and state special education regulations and district policies.

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.
• Current State of Maine Speech-Language Pathologist license (or eligibility for licensure).
• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the ASHA, preferred.
• Maine Department of Education certification or eligibility for Educational Specialist/Speech-Language Pathologist endorsement as required for school-based practice.
• Valid Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) authorization through the Maine Department of Education.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, if travel between school sites is required.

• Knowledge of speech, language, voice, fluency, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders.
• Experience conducting evaluations and developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families.
• Strong communication, organization, and record-keeping skills.
• Experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings preferred.

• Conduct screenings, assessments, and evaluations to identify communication disorders.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and IEP goals.
• Provide direct and indirect speech-language therapy services.
• Monitor student progress and maintain required documentation.
• Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Consult with educators, parents, and related service providers regarding student needs.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Support inclusive educational practices and student access to the curriculum.

Salary and benefits according to district policies and negotiated agreements. School-year position with additional days as determined by district needs.
