The Maine Health EMS Base in Norway covers 9 towns and averages around 5,500 calls per year, with about 70% of those being 911 and the other 30% being transport. They run 3 crews 24/7 and there is a 4th crew that runs in the winter on an as-needed basis. This EMS team works very closely with the ER staff at Maine Health Stephens Hospital.
This base runs several shift structures ranging from 12, to 24-hours in length and are as follows: 24-Hour shift from 8A to 8A. 16-Hour shift from 4P to 8A. 12-Hour Shifts from either 7P/A to 7A/P or 8A/P to 8P/A. There is common space available for shift downtimes, which also has 8 private bedrooms for use. Schedules are usually made 2-3 months out, and EMS staff can expect 5 days off in a row every 4 weeks.
SummaryThe Advanced EMT role can provide basic life support with additional select advanced life support skills during both pre-hospital and interfacility transport to care for their patients when indicated by the patient’s injury or illness in accordance with State protocols and departmental guidelines.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)- Education:
Completion of Advanced EMT course, or equivalent, required. - License/
Certifications:
Current applicable state(s) Advanced EMT license required. Valid driver’s license required; candidates must have a satisfactory driving record with no major violations as defined by company policy or insurer guidelines. Current BLS certification required. Ambulance Vehicle Operators Certification (AVOC) required within six (6) months of hire. - Experience:
