Provides pre‑hospital advanced life support services in accordance with the Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services Act (37‑2009) and related rules, regulations, and regional protocols.
Responsibilities- Respond as dispatched within the defined geographic coverage area to enhance community advanced life support services.
- Abide by all Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Laws.
- Perform patient assessment, obtain historical data, and convey findings via two‑way communications systems to the Medical Commander.
- Effect patient care within scope of practice and in accordance with regional triage, treatment, and transfer protocols.
- Assume control position at the scene of the pre‑hospital encounter and provide direction to primary response personnel.
- Conduct vehicle and equipment surveys at the onset of each tour and following patient encounters; participate in maintaining preparedness for response.
- Perform routine equipment and vehicle checks at the change of each shift and use proper written documentation.
- Complete written reports detailing the outcome of each dispatch and promptly submit reports of each patient encounter at destination facilities and base location.
- Participate in the orientation of newly hired personnel and provide preceptorships as assigned for new personnel, students, and volunteers.
- Perform housekeeping duties along with other crew members.
- Actively participate in patient safety improvement and management programs, identifying processes or systems that could lead to errors or adverse events.
- Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures applicable to assigned duties.
- Participate in required organizational patient‑safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational safety.
- Report serious events and incidents promptly in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
- Coordinate with local Fire and Rescue personnel in conducting joint Fire and Emergency Medicine Services operations.
- Perform work typically in a clinical environment and satisfy all job‑specific obligations and compliance requirements.
- Education:
Graduate from a Specialty Training Program (required). - Certifications/Licenses:
Basic Life Support Certification, Certified Paramedic, Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator, Valid Driver’s License. - Experience:
Relevant experience in pre‑hospital care is preferred. - Skills:
Communication, preceptor ability, teamwork.
