At Bachmann, People Operations exists to support meaningful work, strong relationships, and a culture grounded in purpose, care, and accountability. The People Operations Generalist plays an important role in making sure our people processes are clear, fair, and well-run, while also feeling human and aligned with who we are.

This role owns the day-to-day execution of People Operations and serves as the first point of contact for employees and managers on most people-related matters across Maine and Alabama. Working closely with the Head of Human Resources, the Generalist helps translate Bachmann’s purpose and values into practical, consistent practices that employees and leaders can rely on.

Today, many of our people processes are manual and managed through Excel and Word. This role is not just about maintaining what exists, but about thoughtfully reviewing and improving it. The People Operations Generalist will help strengthen our current processes while also preparing the organization for future systems such as an HRIS and/or ATS.

This role is hybrid and based out of our New Gloucester, Maine location. Travel to the Birmingham Alabama location to support onboarding, relationship building, and people operations alignment will be needed occasionally (roughly 4-6x per year, but will be dependent on business needs)

Key Responsibilities

Own the day-to-day execution of People Operations across Maine and Alabama, serving as the first point of contact for most employee and manager people-related questions. Escalate appropriately when issues involve judgment, risk, or employee relations.

Execute employee lifecycle operations across all supported locations, including onboarding and offboarding logistics, employee status changes (pay, title, location, employment status), and leave coordination (FMLA, parental, medical), ensuring accurate documentation, timelines, and system updates.

Maintain accurate employee records, HR files, and people data using Excel and Word; ensure compliance with employment documentation, record retention, and audit-readiness standards across locations.

Administer benefits and payroll operations in partnership with the Head of People Operations, including enrollments, changes, audits, reconciliations, documentation, and vendor coordination.

Coordinate workers’ compensation administration, including first reports of injury, required documentation, and communication with carriers and site leaders.

Manage recruiting operations and hiring logistics across multiple locations, including job postings, candidate tracking, scheduling, agency coordination, and onboarding support.

Draft communications, materials, and documentation in support of people initiatives, with final messaging owned by the Head of People Operations.
