Overview

The Senior Desktop Engineer is a technical leader responsible for the development, integration, testing, distribution, and maintenance of endpoint management platforms, client applications, operating systems, and endpoint devices within the VyStar enterprise. Reporting to the IT Desktop Engineering Manager, this role creates standards to manage end-user technology and digital experience, and maintains the corporate standard OS image and Windows Autopilot profiles to promote security, productivity, and optimal software usage.

The Senior Desktop Engineer contributes to a desktop strategy and roadmap and maintains knowledge base content within ITIL and Agile frameworks. The position requires expert-level knowledge in Microsoft Intune administration, including software deployment, updates, configuration profiles, dynamic groups, and Windows Autopilot, and a strong understanding of endpoint OS, devices, applications, and best practices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Manages VyStar’s Intune environment.

  • Creates and maintains Windows Autopilot configurations ensuring seamless device delivery to VyStar staff.

  • Ensures endpoints perform optimally to achieve industry-standard digital experience scores.

  • Creates and maintains standard desktop configurations and automated software packages; maintains the gold-standard OS image library with controlled access and incremental versioning.

  • Researches and develops new standard hardware and software configurations for the enterprise.

  • Performs administration of software distribution, application and security patch management, desktop security, remote support, and other desktop management tasks.

  • Documents and maintains desktop security configurations in line with organizational policies.

  • Creates technical documentation as required.

  • Leads tactical and strategic projects, creating and maintaining project plans.

  • Analyzes problems and recommends hardware and software solutions; seeks appropriate authority for purchases.

  • Supports the client system testing environment for evaluating hardware, OS, hosted applications, service packs, patches, and image deployment; schedules and reports testing and validation activities as part of release management.

  • Develops reports on desktop software license usage, compliance, OS and application distribution.

  • Administrates and maintains the System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) environment and Intune co-management.

  • Prepares, tests, and releases software updates to production via SCCM.

  • Maintains knowledge of solutions for software distribution, inventory, monitoring, updates, and maintenance for the client environment.

  • Collaborates with QA/QE teams to ensure quality assurance testing of packages and configurations before implementations.

  • Keeps up to date with current hardware and software trends and management techniques through self-study and training.

  • Collaborates with Enterprise Architect to define a desktop roadmap and strategy including hardware, OS, browsers, peripherals, and tools.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required:

  • Five+ years of IT client engineering and administration experience in an enterprise environment.
