Position Summary
The Purchasing Junior Buyer is responsible for executing day-to-day purchasing decisions to support mill operations. This role makes buying and negotiation decisions within defined category strategies, pricing bands, and delegation-of-authority limits, ensuring continuity of supply, service performance, and compliance with procurement policies.
This position is onsite at the mill and works closely with Operations, Planning, Maintenance, and approved suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Execution
- Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
- Determine order timing and quantities within defined min/max and inventory targets
- Select suppliers from approved supplier lists for RFPs
- Monitor order confirmations, delivery performance, and material availability
- Coordinate with Purchasing Assistants for PO execution and system accuracy
- Negotiate pricing, delivery timing, and MOQs within approved guardrails
- Communicate demand changes and operational needs to suppliers
- Escalate issues or exceptions beyond authority limits
Mill Coordination
- Partner with mill operations, maintenance, and planning teams to understand requirements

Compliance & Controls
- Operate fully within procurement policies, category strategies, and DOA limits
- Maintain accurate documentation to support audit and compliance requirements
- Adhere to contract terms and approved commercial conditions
Decision Authority
- Buying and negotiation decisions within predefined parameters
- No authority to change supplier strategy, add/remove suppliers, or deviate from contract terms
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- On-time material availability for assigned scope
- Expedite frequency
- Inventory adherence
- Zero policy or audit violations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 1–3 years of purchasing, supply chain, or manufacturing experience
- ERP/MRP system experience preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
