RSU 63 BUSINESS MANAGER
Salary: Competitive salary and benefits. Starting at $79,500, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
This position is a full‑time, year‑round position (5 days per week) to begin ASAP and also oversees the Food Service Department.
Qualifications- A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field is preferred or commensurate experience. Preferred advanced degree in Business Administration.
- Experience managing the financial affairs of a public school system or similar in scale and complexity.
- Knowledge of Maine school finance and Maine school law.
- Knowledge of collective bargaining and public‑school contracts.
- Ability to work successfully as part of a Leadership Team and independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the School Board, school staff, administration, and citizens of the community about district fiscal affairs including reports and calculations.
- Ability to supervise personnel in an effective manner to promote professional growth and improvement as needed.
- Manages the financial affairs of the district.
- Understands accounting systems adequate to record in detail all financial transactions.
- Oversees district payroll and payroll‑related insurance functions.
- Supervises the collection, safekeeping, and distribution of all district funds.
- Supervises/evaluates the Bookkeeper and his/her assigned duties and performance.
- Administers a budget control system for the district consistent with current accounting practices.
- Monitors the district’s budget to ensure that there are no unauthorized expenditures, and provides advance warning of potential over‑expenditures.
- Coordinates the annual external audits of the district and the preparation of the annual financial reports.
- Coordinates a Fixed Asset Inventory System for the district.
- Acts as advisor to the Superintendent and other administrators on issues related to the business and financial affairs of the district.
- Assists the Superintendent in preparing all budget materials and long‑range financial planning.
- Responsible for timely preparation and accuracy of all financial reports required by the School Board, Sub‑Committees of the Board, towns, State of Maine, and federal agencies.
- Provides a Statement of Operations to all administrators by the 15th of each month.
- Manages all district revenues and expenditures.
- Supervises the preparation of all warrants that must be submitted to the towns of the district.
- Responsible for administration of all financial obligations of the Board of Directors relative to collective bargaining contracts and individual contracts.
- Reviews and recommends to the Board of Directors and the Superintendent the overall financial operation for Food Services.
- Works with administrators to process work injury claims.
- Oversee Maine Public Employees Retirement monthly and quarterly reports, including monies withheld from the employees for group life insurance, social security, internal revenue and various tax‑sheltered annuities, personal deductions, and retirement with holdings.
- Implement new or revised governmental accounting standards that impact the district.
- Attend all School Board meetings, Budget and Finance Committee meetings, and other meetings as deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
- Communicates accurately and effectively with the School Board, administrators, staff, and general public about the district’s financial affairs.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively within a team environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by the Superintendent.
