Position SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, improving, and optimizing manufacturing processes to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of trailer products at Alcom Trailer Manufacturing. This role partners closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to drive continuous improvement, improve throughput, reduce waste, and ensure products are built to engineering and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes, work instructions, routings, and standard operating procedures.
- Design and improve production layouts, tooling, fixtures, and material flow to enhance efficiency, ergonomics, and safety.
- Support new product development (NPD) by defining manufacturing methods, labor standards, and equipment requirements.
- Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, scrap, and rework; recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma principles.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to ensure product designs are manufacturable and meet quality requirements.
- Support capital equipment selection, justification, installation, and validation.
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective action for quality issues and production challenges.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support and training to production supervisors and operators.
- Support multi-plant standardization efforts across Alcom manufacturing facilities.

- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 2–5 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and production systems.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience in metal fabrication, welding, assembly, or trailer/vehicle manufacturing.
- Experience supporting high-mix, low-to-medium volume manufacturing.
- Familiarity with CAD software and manufacturing documentation systems.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean certification.
- Experience working in a multi-plant manufacturing organization.
Work Environment Requirements
- Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and production areas.
- Ability to walk production floors for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
