Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Electrical Engineering
L.L.Bean is currently seeking a second‑shift Electro‑Mechanical Technician to join the Maintenance team in Freeport, Maine.
Position PurposeIn this important position the individual performs all senior level electronic and automated maintenance functions requiring advanced knowledge of fluid power, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical power transmission, distribution, utilization, and control of electrical energy up to 480 volts AC. They serve as an automation, fluid power, and mechanical safety oversight resource across the company to leaders, engineering, project managers, risk management, and other stakeholders for any concerns related to equipment operation and repair safety in the workplace.
Responsibilities- Apply advanced knowledge of decision‑making processes, precautionary techniques, job planning, personal protective equipment, and test equipment to recognize and avoid hazards.
- Provide second‑level support for complex problems to all departments for all things mechanical automation.
- Inform leadership of potential workflow issues and specific problems; assist in coordinating and working with other teams to ensure smooth transfers across shifts.
- Assist the leader in ensuring staffing aligns with operational needs.
- Perform preventative maintenance functions on a variety of complex industrial equipment as scheduled.
- Apply computer skills to troubleshoot and repair automated industrial equipment, utilizing and adjusting programming parameter settings on HMI, VFD, and I/O controlled equipment.
- Install, maintain, and support a complex Kuka robot system, automated pneumatic cutting, packaging, sorting equipment, high‑speed sewing and production equipment, injection molding and carton and product transport systems.
- Follow procedures and properly handle Universal Waste per state guidelines.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all new and existing installations.
- Act as an internal resource providing support and expertise required for projects and maintenance; may act as project lead.
- Oversee the work of automated equipment contractors and vendors.
- Collaborate with internal clients in support of new and existing technology requirements.
- Mentor and support all technicians, regardless of title and level.
- Identify hazardous conditions or actions that may cause injury or property damage and ensure action to abate them.
- Assure appropriate communication of issues/problems to coworkers and leadership.
- Share expertise in support of others to build technical and diagnostic strength in the team.
- Provide coverage at designated times as required to meet business demands and off‑shift shutdowns.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Adhere to safety‑sensitive position requirements, remaining sober and following all safety policies and procedures.

Education & Experience- High school or GED/ Vocational or Community College preferred but not required.
- 5–7 years of experience in industrial equipment maintenance.
- Industrial equipment maintenance experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to create and maintain accurate documentation.
- Knowledge and experience with NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
- Ability to troubleshoot complex controls, including experience with adjusting and programming parameters on HMI’s, I/O’s, and VFD’s.
- Experience working with various 24‑hour emergency support groups.
- Experience reading electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
- Ability to collaborate at many levels internally and externally.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently, and provide guidance and support to all technicians.
- Valid state driver's license required.
- Ability to operate and work in boom trucks, scissor lifts, personnel lifts, and other aerial lifts at heights greater than 14 feet.
- Proficiency with computers and systems, including Microsoft O365, CMMS, Infolink, GPS monitoring, and I‑Boss battery management system.
- Ability to respond outside of normal working hours to support 24/7 operations.
