Fusion Medical Staffing is looking for a skilled Labor and Delivery RN to join our team for a 13‑week travel assignment in Skowhegan, Maine. Required Qualifications
  • At least one year of recent experience as a Labor and Delivery RN
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification
  • STABLE and ACLS certifications (AHA/ARC)
  • Other certifications or licenses that may be required for this position
Summary

The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care in an obstetric setting, including assessment of maternal and fetal health, administration of treatments, and collaboration with healthcare teams to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered care throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. The role demands strong clinical skills in obstetrics, critical thinking, excellent communication, and a commitment to the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics.

Work Functions
  • Communicate labor and delivery procedures to patients and families, providing reassurance and addressing concerns
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to approved obstetric nursing techniques
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during labor, delivery, and patient examinations
  • Provide immediate postpartum care, including assessment and stabilization of mother and newborn
  • Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members to deliver cohesive care
  • Respond to obstetric emergencies (e.g., preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress) using evidence‑based protocols
  • Document patient care, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes
  • Perform fetal monitoring and interpret results
  • Assist in cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures
  • Comply with all regulatory standards, including hospital policies, state laws, and federal guidelines for obstetric nursing care
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of labor and delivery nursing
Required Essential Skills

  • Proficient reading and written communication in English
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and use PC skills
  • Physical abilities – remaining in a stationary position, moving equipment (50‑100 lbs), pushing, pulling, and bending
  • Interpersonal skills – working effectively with a variety of personnel, presenting a positive attitude and professionalism
  • Technical/motor skills – grasping, performing fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, and moving during procedures
  • Mental requirements – coping with frequent public contact, meeting deadlines under pressure, working under or without close supervision, maintaining continuous concentration to detail
  • Sensory requirements – visual acuity and effective communication
