RSU 23 is seeking a dedicated Districtwide Groundskeeper to join our maintenance team. This essential role supports all RSU 23 schools and facilities through comprehensive maintenance services and grounds care, ensuring safe and welcoming learning environments for our students and staff.

Position Overview

As a key member of our operations team, you'll perform a variety of maintenance tasks across multiple school locations, including facility repairs, preventive maintenance, and grounds upkeep. We're looking for a reliable team player who brings both technical skills and a positive, solution-oriented mindset to every challenge.

Schedule & Commitment

This year-round position offers consistent full-time hours, primarily 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday during the school year. Summer schedules may vary to accommodate seasonal projects and facility improvements. Occasional weekend work and overtime opportunities are available to support district operations and events.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain athletic fields, playgrounds, and recreational areas including mowing, fertilizing, aerating, and seasonal field preparation
  • Perform landscape maintenance including pruning, planting, weeding, mulching, and seasonal flower bed care
  • Operate and maintain grounds equipment such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, snow removal equipment, and irrigation systems
  • Conduct seasonal grounds preparation including spring cleanup, fall leaf removal, and winter snow and ice management
  • Maintain parking lots, walkways, and building perimeters through cleaning, minor repairs, and safety inspections
  • Monitor and maintain outdoor lighting, signage, and fence systems
  • Coordinate with athletic directors and staff for field preparation and event setup
  • Perform preventive maintenance on grounds equipment and coordinate repairs when needed
  • Support facility maintenance projects including painting, basic carpentry, and general repairs as assigned
  • Maintain inventory of grounds supplies and equipment, reporting needs to supervisors
  • Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds
  • Perform all other related duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Facilities and Maintenance

Certification Requirements
  • Current and valid CHRC (criminal history record check); more information can be found here: https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)./fingerprinting
  • Current and valid Maine Drivers License
  • Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, turf management, and grounds equipment operation (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of seasonal grounds maintenance practices and safety procedures (Preferred)
  • Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance and repair (Preferred)
