Under the direction of the VP of Operations, the Quality Assurance Specialist is leading the Quality department to ensure that all projects meet company standards and client specifications. This role is central to how Bachmann delivers on its commitments, to customers, partners, and one another by balancing technical rigor with thoughtful collaboration and accountability. This role involves establishing and enforcing quality standards, enhancing inspection methods, coordinating across departments, and supporting vendors to maintain high quality and compliance levels.

The Quality Assurance Specialist will also provide training, oversee resource allocation, and contribute to project planning and review processes, fostering a proactive, customer-focused quality culture built on trust, clear expectations, and continuous improvement throughout the organization. This role is well-suited for someone who takes pride in doing things right, values strong working relationships, and wants to contribute to a culture where quality, integrity, and teamwork matter.

This position is based out of our New Gloucester, Maine office and will require significant (50-75%) travel, both international and domestic. We anticipate travel will be required 2-3 weeks a month, on average.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Quality Program Management
  • Own and coordinate organization’s Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Responsible for ISO compliance through leading team of internal auditors and facilitating external, third-party validation audits.
  • Train and mentor other internal team members on QMS requirements, ensuring consistent standards are applied across the organization.
  • Plan and manage quality resource scheduling, aligning with company business goals, project needs, and resource availability.
Quality Standards Development
  • Develop, implement, and enforce department standards, including QC reporting, documentation practices, and document retention procedures.
  • Oversee internal quality assurance processes at in-house fabrication facility by establishing quality check procedures and reviewing documentation of completed goods.
  • Maintain and refine inspection and testing methods, as well as department tools, to enhance overall quality across projects.
Quality Oversight and Compliance
  • Actively interface with Engineering and Project Management to review critical design parameters supporting open dialogue, early issue identification, and shared ownership of quality outcomes, and develop project-specific Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality management plans, and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans.
  • Monitor and validate subcontractor fabrication processes, ensuring compliance with all company and customer specifications by performing on-site quality checks, testing procedures, and documentation (including material identification, material handling, dimensional checks, non-destructive examinations, functional testing, etc.)
  • Generate and review project-specific Non-Conformity Reports (NCRs) and direct resolution efforts with a focus on learning, prevention, and long-term quality improvement..
  • Partner with Operations to drive continuous improvement through an effective
  • Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) program.
  • Support the growth of the organization’s sub-supplier network with the review of vendor quality programs, new supplier audits, and assisting suppliers in resolving challenges, promoting teamwork, and leveraging expertise to enhance quality.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year College or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

5-7 years Quality Assurance, Project Management or Engineering experience, preferably in the Power Industry.

  • Deep understanding of ISO 9001 standards
  • Strong quality assurance background in the metal fabrication industry, with expertise in standard manufacturing processes
