Technical Designer I

We're seeking an experienced Technical Designer to join our team on a temporary basis and help ensure our products meet the exceptional fit, construction, and quality standards our customers expect. This is a temporary assignment expected to last 4-6 months and requires onsite presence at our Freeport, Maine headquarters two days per  this role, you'll partner closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate product fit, develop and maintain technical specifications, and drive continuous improvements throughout the product development process.

What You'll Do Evaluate samples for fit, construction, and quality against established standards.

Conduct detailed garment measurements and ensure consistency within specification guidelines.

Lead fit sessions and provide technical recommendations to improve product fit and performance.

Create, maintain, and update technical specifications throughout the development lifecycle.

Partner with Product Development, Merchandising, and other cross-functional teams to resolve fit and construction issues.

Identify opportunities to improve fit, quality, and overall product consistency.

Support commercialization efforts by helping ensure products are production-ready and aligned with brand standards.

What You'll Bring Experience in Technical Design, Product Development, Apparel Engineering, or a related field.

Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit evaluation, pattern making, and quality standards.

Experience creating and maintaining technical specifications and fit documentation.

Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners.

Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Skills & Qualifications 2-year associates degree3+ years of relevant experience

Strong knowledge of apparel or accessory garment construction, terminology and fit Strong knowledge of pattern making/draping and grading

Excellent communication skills

Excellent computer skills including 3D (CLO), Adobe Illustrator and PDM (Product Data Management)
Strong analytical skills

Solid technical drawing skills

Good understanding of the L.L.Bean customer

Good attention to detail

Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment

Ability to lift/carry 20lbs. on a regular basisL.L.Bean uses a market-based compensation approach. The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $73,000.00 - $91,200.00. Individual compensation may vary based on factors such as a candidate’s experience, qualifications, education, geographic location, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
