Location: Bar Harbor
The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Research Assistant I to support the laboratory of Principal Investigator Dr. Beth Dumont in the Dumont Lab. The successful applicant will work on an NIH‑funded project to develop and characterize a novel outbred mouse population founded from wild‑derived mice.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions- Establish and maintain an outbred mouse breeding colony, including meticulous colony record‑keeping.
- Perform sample collection and maintain organized sample inventories.
- Conduct tests and/or procedures on mice following standard or detailed protocols.
- Perform data collection, with attention to accuracy and precision.
- Coordinate and communicate with other project participants.
- Mouse handling and husbandry skills required.
- Familiarity with colony management practices required.
- Fundamental computer skills, including familiarity with Excel and Word.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate information verbally and in written form.
- Ability to demonstrate effective mental concentration, visual attention and dexterity.
- Ability to interact with individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program.
- Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated ability to organize time effectively and work under time constraints, meet deadlines, and prioritize work.
- Regular, reliable and consistent attendance.
- Required:
High School Diploma or GED. - Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree.
- Required:
1 year of relevant experience. - Preferred: 1–2 years.
$18.59 – $29.51 per hour based on experience.
