This is a full-time, one-year (with possibility of extension) professional staff position that is jointly funded by the US Forest Service Research Data Archive (20%) and the US Forest Service Northern Research Station (80%). The primary purpose is to assist University of Maine and US Forest Service researchers to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret research data from ongoing long-term silvicultural experiments, and to organize, standardize, and make research-related record archives available online.

The majority of the work would be conducted in an office and in the field at the US Forest Service Hart Building and PEF in Bradley, Maine. Some in-state and out-of-state travel may also be required. Typical hiring salary for this soft-money funded position is $52,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Required:

* Typically has the education associated with a Master of Science degree in Forestry or a closely related field and at least one year of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Experience with scientific data management or long-term silvicultural studies.

* Ability to use Microsoft Access and R or a similar programming language.

* Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis and reporting.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred:

* Experience with US Forest Service data.

* Experience writing ISO metadata.

* Technical writing ability.

* Experience writing scientific publications and giving scientific presentations.

* Interest and motivation for working with researchers.
