Postdoctoral Research Associate In Arctic Limnology

The Climate Change Institute at the University of Maine has an opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Arctic Limnology. Specifically, the research will focus on investigating the ecological implications of a rapid, coherent browning event in Greenland lakes, and placing them in the context of long-term datasets for the area and the broader context of widespread change in the Arctic.

Areas of focus may include plankton ecology and/or biogeochemistry. The postdoctoral research associate will have the flexibility to develop research questions in collaboration with a team of researchers focused on this issue. Typical hiring range for this one-year, fixed-length position is $54,000 to $65,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in biology or related field completed by time of appointment
  • Experience conducting research in lakes and plankton analyses.
  • Experience with standard limnological sampling methods.
  • Ability to work in a remote location for several weeks at a time.
  • Ability to backpack into remote locations with field equipment.
Preferred:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
  • Ability to conduct statistical analyses and develop manuscripts.
