Overview

Hannaford Supermarkets, established in 1883, is a local market that emphasizes fresh produce and sustainability.

Responsibilities

Manage retail operations during the evening hours, making decisions that impact store associates, merchandise quality and presentation, and the level of service offered to customers. Build associate and customer relations and promote a strong culture in support of Hannaford Strategy through store huddles, role modeling, and consistent use of performance tools.

Ensure store appearance, security, safety, and food safety are maintained at the highest level and account for proper control of company assets.

Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to learn multiple tasks.
  • Good judgment in problem solving, decision making, handling complaints, arbitrating disputes, and resolving grievances.
  • Desire and ability to lead and manage associates.
  • Department Manager or equivalent experience required.
  • College degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or a similar organization, or be willing to attain accreditation within 90 days of employment.
  • Accreditation must be maintained while employed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use computers and other communication systems required for job functions.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs. regularly, including overhead lifting and up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Push/pull up to 40 lbs. regularly.
  • Meet established volume and fixed activity standards.
Preferred Requirements
  • Assist in attaining financial objectives: sales, payroll percent, gross margin, shrink, and MPP net percent effectiveness.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Foster a sales‑driven, consumer‑focused culture through relationship building and promotion of an enthusiastic customer environment.
  • Treat all associates with fairness, dignity, and respect. Provide recognition of accomplishments and offer constructive counseling when necessary.
  • Oversee the overall operation of the entire store during the evening hours.
  • Maintain the store's appearance and presentation and ensure quality conditions of all products.
  • Manage performance of duties and responsibilities of all evening associates.
  • Make hiring, training and performance management recommendations for evening shift associates.
  • Support the development needs of evening store associates.
  • Use good judgment in delegation, assignment, and follow‑up for efficient performance.
  • Enforce compliance with company security, safety, and food safety standards.
  • Maintain merchandising techniques and layouts consistent with corporate philosophy.
  • Understand inventory shrink causes and solutions in assigned departments.
  • Use company tools such as MPP, financial reports, scheduling, ordering and business information systems.
  • Have a solid understanding of standard practices for all departments.
  • Maintain solid communication with the management team, all store associates, and throughout the organization.
  • Treat all store information as strictly confidential.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.

Salary range is between $49,400 and $67,496 annually (40 hours). Eligible for up to 5 additional hours at overtime rate.
