Position: Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Ecology at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences
Location: East Boothbay

Postdoctoral Scientist

The postdoc would work with existing experimental in situ and lab-based data sets for hypothesis testing and biogeochemical modeling. The aim is to identify the conditions under which co-cultivation of blue mussels and farmed kelp is mutually beneficial and can mitigate stresses from coastal acidification. This position will offer opportunities for multi-institution and transdisciplinary collaboration, pursuit of independent funding, and training in using genetic-based approaches to determine fate of kelp detritus if desired.

This position will supervise a technician and undergraduate students. The main duties would be statistical analyses and biogeochemical modeling and manuscript preparation.

Requirements

Degree in Biogeochemistry, Global Change Biology, Benthic Marine Ecology or Phycology.

Knowledge and understanding of biogeochemistry of calcification/dissolution and photosynthesis/respiration in seawater.

Experience with macroalgae and/or mussel cultivation, husbandry, and processing.

Strong oral and written skills, demonstrated publication record, ability to work in a cross-institutional team.
