This is professional services and scientific work at the biologist level involving research and management of the State’s wildlife by protecting, preserving, and enhancing Maine’s natural resources. The Wildlife Biologist position provides a key support role assisting the Resource Supervisor in carrying out all activities of the Wildlife Divisions Regional (B) Headquarters (located in Sidney).

• 1. Assisting senior level resource biologists in planning and coordinating wildlife assessment activities and research to support the Department’s goals and objectives.
• 2. Performing research development, investigation, analysis, and monitoring of species and their habitats (e.g., physical, biological, and chemical characteristics, etc.) to support species planning and management.
• 3. Interacting and conferring with other biologists, professionals, and advocacy groups to preserve and monitor habitats and populations within assigned areas.
• 4. Establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with agencies both internal and external to state government to advocate for fish, wildlife, and ecosystem concerns.
• 5. Summarizing and assessing data using standard statistical procedures and scientific analysis to develop reports of findings and to provide recommendations to higher level Resource Biologist.
• 6. Responding to routine inquiries and requests to provide scientific and technical support for departmental programs and other public stakeholder groups.
• 7. Consulting with and providing technical assistance to senior level staff to recommend strategies and approaches to mitigate the impacts of development on fish, wildlife, and habitats.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Fisheries or Wildlife Management, or related field
-AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

• 1. Summarize your education and experience in wildlife management, biology, and ecology, and how it relates to this position.
• 2. Summarize your experience in wildlife management as related to:
  Inventorying, surveying, and monitoring wildlife resources. Animal damage control practices and resolving nuisance wildlife issues. Habitat restoration, improvement, and protection. Providing agency comments on Environmental Reviews for state/federal agencies.
• 3. Summarize your experience communicating both orally and in writing with non-technical and technical audiences.
• 4. Describe your experience, skill level, and abilities with aerial census / surveys, and the operation of GPS, ATVs, snowsleds, and various watercraft.
