Location: Freeport

Our 3rd shift Security Officer positions are located in Freeport, Maine, with full-time hours from 9:30PM to 5:30AM, five days a week and a preference for weekend shift workers.

Position

Purpose

The Security Officer protects L.L.Bean employees, facilities, and physical assets across various company locations. The officer enforces safety and security rules, monitors equipment and software, and performs patrol duties to safeguard against fire, theft, vandalism, and other threats.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergencies and life/safety situations, including active shooter, fire, burglary, suspicious substances, bomb threats, and property damage.
  • Order building evacuations and assume control of on‑site emergencies until relieved by management.
  • Process personnel through metal detectors, conduct bag checks, monitor security cameras, observe behavior, enforce PPE and access protocols, and report incidents and investigations.
  • Perform facility tours, remain alert for fire, unauthorized entry, safety hazards, suspicious activity, and utility failures.
  • Support retail operations with disruptive customer handling and back‑up apprehension support.
  • Operate air‑sampling equipment and conduct sampling as requested.
  • Control access to key manufacturing buildings via metal detectors, turnstiles, and exception gates; verify employment and appropriate access; prevent unauthorized product removal.
  • Conduct property inspections and respond to alarms, issues, and vehicle escort requests.
  • Provide security presence during emergencies, threats, and non‑emergency events such as concerts or performances on the flagship campus.
  • Build rapport with employees, resolve issues, and maintain a positive customer‑service presence.
  • Reduce shrinkage through bag checks, patrols, and a consistent security presence.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of operational areas—including telecom rooms, network switches, elevator rooms, risers, water‑pump rooms, and the like.
  • Create incident reports using ThinkLP, prepare daily station logs, maintain records, and forward reports to appropriate management.
  • Respond to Central Station, perform parking lot checks, monitor cameras, and ensure coverage during breaks and absences.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and operate company vehicles as needed.
Health and Safety Requirements

All employees must actively contribute to a safe workplace by following safety policies, reporting unsafe conditions or behaviors, and working safely. This role is safety‑sensitive; employees must remain sober, free of alcohol or drug impairment, and pass a background check.

Education Level

High School Diploma or GED required. A two‑year degree in a related field is preferred.

Experience

Minimum 2+ years of experience. Military or first responder experience is preferred but not required.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license held for at least 5 years, clean driving record for the last 3‑5 years, and ability to be cleared to operate company vehicles.
  • Pass L.L.Bean background check.
  • Above‑average computer skills, including SharePoint, One Note, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts.
  • Calm, professional demeanor under stressful, emergency situations.
  • Familiarity with Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) techniques.
  • Clear communication, teamwork, and outstanding customer‑service skills.
  • Adaptability to changing situations and ability to operate in a diverse environment.
