Job Summary
The Sheet Metal Supervisor oversees the fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal ductwork and related components for HVAC and plumbing systems. This role provides leadership and technical direction to ensure all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality and code standards. The Sheet Metal Supervisor coordinates team activities, manages materials and schedules, and drives continuous improvement within both shop and field operations.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of sheet metal workers, apprentices, and fabrication staff in both shop and field environments.
- Plan, assign, and monitor workloads to ensure timely completion of duct fabrication, installation, and related HVAC and plumbing tasks.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and mechanical drawings to verify accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
- Ensure all work meets applicable codes, project specifications, and company quality standards.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and other trades to maintain efficient workflow and resolve on‑site challenges.
- Monitor inventory levels and oversee ordering of materials, fittings, and equipment required for fabrication and installation.
- Conduct regular inspections of ongoing and completed work to ensure compliance with design, safety, and performance standards.
- Maintain accurate records of labor hours, material usage, and project progress for reporting and billing purposes.
- Lead and promote a safety‑first culture by enforcing health and safety procedures, conducting toolbox talks, and ensuring proper use of PPE.
- Train, coach, and mentor apprentices and team members to develop technical skills and maintain high‑quality workmanship.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and cost‑saving measures in fabrication and installation workflows.
- Communicate regularly with management regarding project status, workforce planning, material needs, and potential challenges.
- Performs additional duties as assigned, with flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs.
- Minimum 5+ Years Sheet Metal Fabrication and Installation
- Minimum2+ Years Supervisory or Lead Experience
- Minimum High School/GED
- Certified Sheet Metal Journeyman with a valid Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal designation.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems, ductwork fabrication, and installation techniques.
- Familiarity with local and national building codes, safety regulations, and best practices.
- Proven leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, structural, and architectural drawings.
- Skilled in scheduling, planning, and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in operating shop machinery and fabrication tools such as brakes, shears, and plasma cutters.
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as required.
Occasional travel required (up to 25%)
