A strong candidate will be someone who can take a problem from“What’s wrong?” → “Why is it happening?” → “How do we fix it?” → “Does it work correctly now?”

Position Summary

The skilled
Diesel Technician / Mechanic
combines strong diagnostic and computer skills with hands‑on mechanical expertise. This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment issues, using modern diagnostic technology, and performing quality repairs in the shop and in the field. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with both
computers and tools
—using diagnostic software and technical information to identify problems, then applying practical mechanical skills to make the necessary repairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel‑powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Use computerized diagnostic tools, scan tools, service software, wiring diagrams, and technical resources to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic problems.
  • Perform hands‑on repairs including engine, transmission, drivetrain, brake, suspension, steering, cooling, fuel, electrical, and emissions systems.
  • Read and interpret diagnostic trouble codes and use a systematic approach to identify root causes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and component replacements.
  • Test equipment after repairs to verify proper operation and ensure issues have been resolved.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records using computer‑based systems.
  • Follow manufacturer specifications, service procedures, and safety standards.
  • Communicate diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, and job status clearly with supervisors and other team members.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Assist with additional mechanical and maintenance tasks as needed.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong diesel mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to diagnose problems using a combination of
    computerized diagnostic tools and hands‑on testing
    .
  • Comfortable working with computers, diagnostic software, electronic service information, and digital work‑order systems.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines and related mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and service information.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately identify the root cause of equipment problems.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Diesel technician/mechanic experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift to 75 pounds, and move tools, parts, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment and, when necessary, outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely perform hands‑on mechanical work and operate required shop equipment.
