Position: School Counselor / Social Worker
Location: Houlton

RSU 29 is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School counselor or Social Worker to provide social‑emotional, behavioral, attendance, and crisis intervention support to help students succeed. This role collaborates with students, families, staff, and community partners to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small‑group counseling for academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Respond to crises, including mental health concerns, self‑harm, suicidal ideation, abuse disclosures, and behavioral emergencies.
  • Participate in the school's threat assessment process and complete CSTAG threat assessments.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter.
  • Monitor attendance and address chronic absenteeism.
  • Deliver SEL lessons on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, resilience, and relationship skills.
  • Collaborate with families, school staff, and outside providers to support student needs.
  • Coordinate referrals to community services and monitor follow‑through.
  • Participate in IEP, 504, and student support team meetings.
  • Consult with staff on interventions and student supports.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or minimum of bachelor’s degree in Social Work, or a related field.
  • Appropriate state certification/licensure as a School Counselor or Licensed Social Worker.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, threat assessment, and child welfare reporting requirements.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Proper Maine DOE certification and background check required for all positions.
