Serving Maine’s Midcoast communities of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham, MSAD 75 is home to over 2,350 students and more than 600 faculty and staff members.

MSAD 75 is seeking a Long Term School Social Worker Substitute at Harpswell Community School to join our vibrant educational community. Together, we can inspire the next generation of learners and leaders.

DATES: August 25, 2026 to Approximately November 24, 2026 (12 weeks assignment/pending snow days)

PAY RATE: $279.00/day

JOB GOALS: The School Social Worker is a licensed mental health professional responsible for supporting the mental health, social-emotional development, and academic/behavioral success of all students within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. School Social Workers are the link between the home, school, and community. They provide direct as well as indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to promote and support students’ academic and social success.

Social workers collaborate with other school staff with the goal of fostering inclusive environments and evidence-based behavioral supports that reduce barriers to learning and help to create a sense of belonging for every student. Specific assignments and locations may be shifted based on student and program needs around the District. The District remains committed to placing School Social Workers where they can most effectively support our students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Maine State Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW-Conditional Clinical).
  • Valid State of Maine Department of Education Background Check (CHRC) authorization.
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities.
  • Thorough understanding of special education laws (IDEA), IEP process, assessment methods, and evidence-based therapy strategies.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Effective behavior management skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instruction and record-keeping.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to the success of students with disabilities.
  • Mandt trained or ability to obtain.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Promote an Inclusive Culture
  • Promote an inclusive culture by advocating for equitable, culturally-competent and trauma-informed practices that address the diverse identities and intersectional needs of all students, as well as restorative approaches that keep students connected to their school community.
Collaboration for Core Instruction
  • Assist in the delivery of comprehensive school social work services to students, their families, and district staff in order to fully develop individual student potential.
  • Consult and collaborate with staff and school administration and review MTSS data to inform interventions.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with families, providing a bridge between home, school, and community-based resources.
  • Provide training to staff on mental health related topics.
  • Supporting families to navigate the school system and feel like true partners in their child's education.
Collaboration for Intervention
  • Actively participate in grade level teams designed to review student data, identify learning barriers, and design comprehensive, proactive interventions.
  • Deliver social work interventions to remove barriers to student learning.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support for students experiencing trauma, self-harm, or severe emotional dysregulation.
  • Support system-wide response to community crises/events to support the school and greater community.
