Sr. Engineering Manager, Replication and Storage — Redpanda is building the Agentic Data Plane (ADP), a new category in AI infrastructure that connects AI agents with enterprise data and systems. Our multi-modal data streaming engine enables agentic applications to reason and act in real-time with speed, autonomy, and precision. Global customers include Activision Blizzard, Cisco, Moody's, Texas Instruments, Vodafone and major banks.

The engineering Core team aims to create the best data streaming platform. The team includes experts in Raft/consensus, transactions, and distributed storage, building a differentiated, highly performant product with traction in the market. The Core team collaborates across Redpanda to drive key business metrics through SaaS and self-managed offerings.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of distributed systems engineers working on Redpanda.

• 10+ years of experience in software development and delivery
• 5+ years of experience in managing software developers
• Experience leading or managing highly technical engineering teams
• Experience developing a strategy and roadmap for your teams
• An entrepreneurial spirit — as we expect each team in Redpanda to organize themselves like a startup
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership
• Previous experience growing a team to 15-20 people
• Reasonably current understanding of C++, C, Rust, or other systems language, including profiling and benchmarking
• Comfortable working with a 100% distributed engineering team, collaborating on Git Hub, in the open and a self starter
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Work with and guide a distributed engineering team solving highly unique and complex problems in distributed consensus, transactions, and our Storage engine
• Collaborate with engineering leadership and product management to craft and execute the company’s technology vision and strategy
• Ensure the team is empowered, with a strong sense of ownership and belonging
• Motivate and enable the team to contribute toward organizational success
• Provide frequent, actionable feedback for personal development
• Foster alignment with company goals and collaborative decision-making
• Continuously improve how the team works and measure outcomes
• Lead recruiting and hiring for the team
• Participate in regular performance reviews
• Mentor team members and support their growth
• Escalate difficult or systemic challenges to leadership
• Engage in strategic discussions with peers and Directors
• Track progress, assess risks, and communicate contingency plans
• Provide career development guidance and structure
• Drive evaluation and management of team performance
• Oversee execution of team projects

• Knowledge of Linux file system internals
• Experience with databases or storage internals (RPC, caching, allocators, compressors, Raft, Paxos, etc.)
