Position: Ski Patroller- NSP Volunteer- 2026/27 Season
Location: Newry

Overview

Currently conducting ski/ride assessments for the 26/27 season. Sunday River Ski Patrollers monitor mountain areas for injured, reckless, and lost skiers and snowboarders, and for skiing hazards. Patrollers provide first aid and other necessary assistance to skiers and snowboarders, enforce company skiing safety regulations, complete ongoing training and emergency procedures practice, and perform various trail maintenance tasks. Patrol staff regularly assist in various Mountain Operations departments when needed to ensure reliable service to our guests.

Cross‑training is encouraged. As a customer‑focused organization, a crucial part of each employee's job is to attract and retain guests.

This is a volunteer position. Volunteers pay annual dues to the National Ski Patrol and are members of the volunteer roster. Each volunteer patroller receives a season pass and is asked to meet a minimum annual commitment in order to remain active.

Responsibilities
  • Stand by awaiting emergency calls; assist with dispatch and first‑aid room duties.
  • Patrol assigned mountain areas regularly to ensure that all trails are properly marked, to identify injured, lost, out of control and reckless skiers and snowboarders; to identify existing or potential skiing hazards and to monitor and report on weather/skiing conditions, skiing traffic and the like.
  • Stop reckless skiers or snowboarders and enforce company skiing safety regulations, including taking appropriate disciplinary action. Assist with educational efforts related to safe skiing/riding.
  • Perform a variety of trail maintenance tasks, check trails for hazards, missing signs; put up signs and mark hazards; cut brush; pack down and shovel snow; put up fences and close trails when necessary.
  • Perform trail opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Search for missing persons and equipment.
  • Patrol organized racing activities and other special events.
  • Administer emergency care/first aid to injured skiers and snowboarders; assess condition of and stabilize patient, render appropriate treatment, such as splinting, transport to base area in a toboggan.
  • Transport uninjured skiers or snowboarders who are having difficulty or have lost or damaged equipment to base area by toboggan or snowmobile.
  • Answer questions, give directions, etc.
  • Assist other mountain operations departments in providing a safe and reliable skiing experience to our guests.
Qualifications
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to ski or snowboard all terrain in all types of conditions.
  • Medical skills and certifications such as EMT, WFR, or OEC certificate or greater.
  • CPR/AED.
