Position Title: MHS Boys Lacrosse Assistant Coach Department: Athletic Reports To: Athletic Director, in conjunction with the Principal

Qualifications
  • Has knowledge and background in the sport.
  • Meets RSU 57 eligibility requirements, including but not limited to:
    • First Aid Training
    • CPR Training
    • Concussion Management Course
    • Heat Illness & Acclimatization Course
    • Fundamentals of Coaching Course
    • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course
    • Protecting Students from Abuse Course
    • Student Mental Health Course
    • RSU 57 Background Check
    • Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check

All requirements must be met when specified.

Position Summary
  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary to achieve individual and team success.
  • Serve as an assistant to the Head Coach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all local and state athletic policies.
  • Implement and enforce policies as required.
  • Attend all required meetings as set by the school and the MPA.
  • Emphasize academics, sportsmanship, and citizenship as part of the athletic philosophy.
  • Maintain high standards for athlete performance and conduct.
  • Model appropriate standards of conduct through personal behavior.
  • Dress appropriately for all practices and games.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the sport.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of training and conditioning techniques.
  • Seek opportunities to learn and implement new techniques and ideas.
  • Teach skills that are appropriate and safe for each individual athlete.
  • Supervise athletes at all times.
  • Maintain, inventory, store, and properly care for athletic equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities to ensure safety.
  • Assist in preparation for all scheduled practices and events.
  • Establish and enforce appropriate team rules.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of appropriate emergency and injury response procedures.
  • Encourage athlete leadership on and off the field.
  • Communicate with parents in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Participate in pre-season informational meetings with parents and athletes.
  • Interact appropriately and effectively with game officials.
  • Model excellent sportsmanship at all times.
  • Meet all deadlines for paperwork and related responsibilities.
  • Maintain required records and documentation for athletes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach, athletic director, or principal.
Language and Communication Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents relevant to the position, including athletic policy manuals, handbooks, and state guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly in both oral and written form with parents, coaches, and athletes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, athletes, coaching staff, and the community.
Mathematical Skills
  • Understanding of basic budgeting and accounting practices.
Physical Demands

While performing the essential duties of this position, the employee is continuously required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently demonstrates physical skills that require running, jumping, throwing, catching, swinging an implement, and general body movement. The employee may be required to lift and carry items in excess of 20 pounds. The position requires occasional prolonged sitting and frequent travel by bus.

Extended work hours may be required to meet program demands.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may occasionally be excessive. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
