Rural Carrier Associate; RCA

Overview

Rural Carrier Associates deliver and collect mail along a prescribed rural route using a vehicle, providing customers on the route with a variety of postal services. Non-career employees who support customers with mail delivery and related services.

• Sort mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route.
• Receive and sign for accountable mail.
• Load mail in the vehicle and deliver mail to customers along a prescribed route and on a regular schedule by vehicle; collect monies and receipts for accountable mail; pick up mail from customers' roadside boxes.
• Sell stamps, stamped paper and money orders; accept C.O.D., registered, certified, and insured mail and parcel post; furnish routine information concerning postal matters and provide requested forms to customers.
• Return collected mail, undeliverable mail, and submit monies and receipts to the post office.
• Prepare mail for forwarding and maintain records of change of address information.
• Prepare a daily trip report and maintain a list of customers on the route.
• Conduct special surveys when required.
• Maintain an inventory of stamps and stamped paper as needed to provide service to customers on the route.
• Provide for mail security at all times.
• Support schedule and route coverage as needed; work is usually available on Saturdays and may be required to cover the absence of the carrier on an as-needed basis.

• Desirable candidates may be required to have a vehicle suitable for use and live within easy commuting distance of the facility location.
• The job is physically demanding and work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Carriers may be required to load and unload trays and containers of mail and parcels weighing up to 70 pounds.
