Job Summary

CDL truck drivers are responsible for all aspects of truck operations, including moving equipment with a trailer, hauling asphalt, gravel, stone, and other materials. A valid Maine CDL license is required. The position may involve early start times to allow equipment movement before crew arrives, and operators assist crew in placing material on the job site.

Responsibilities
  • Primary Focus
    • Report to foreman or supervisor.
    • Perform daily equipment checks: fluids, wear and tear, lighting.
    • Maintain records of material moved, sold, or distributed.
    • Conduct preventative maintenance on trucks.
    • Keep trucks and equipment clean.
    • Report maintenance or safety issues to safety officer or foreman.
  • Secondary Focus
    • Check trucks at shift start.
    • Clean equipment and trucks.
    • General maintenance of company buildings and equipment.
    • Assist mechanic with in‑depth repairs.
    • Perform labor tasks on job site: shoveling, raking, wheel barreling.
    • Install asphalt, gravel, or other materials.
    • Operate basic equipment: plate compactors, saws, shop equipment.
    • Lift objects over head > 40 lbs.; carry heavy objects.
    • Mix coatings, paint.
    • Operate striping equipment, seal coating unit.
    • Work under exposure to petroleum products, cleaning solvents, hot asphalt.
    • Perform duties at night on regular or irregular basis.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid and unexpired Maine CDL license.
  • Pass drug screening test per federal, state, or local regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team.
  • Ability to take direction from supervisors.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy loads, climb ladders, perform manual labor tasks.
  • Safety conscious.
Work Conditions / Physical Demands

Frequently sitting while driving construction vehicles. Occasionally standing, walking, loading, and unloading construction material in all weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. overhead. Work occurs outdoors, often in inclement weather such as rain, ice, snow, and heat. Long hours, nights, and weekends during construction and plowing season. Requires regular physical activity: walking, climbing, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping.

Environment includes exposure to dust, vehicle traffic, elevated noise levels, etc.
