Position Summary
Dexter Community Schools is seeking dependable and safety-minded School Bus Drivers to transport students to and from school and school-related activities. No previous school bus driving experience is required. The District provides paid training, including the coursework necessary to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Flexible training schedules are available.
Rate of Pay$24.06 per hour
Work Schedule- Morning Route: 6:15 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.
- Afternoon Route: 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Additional hours may be available for field trips, athletic events, and extracurricular activities.

Safely transports students and other authorized passengers to and from designated destinations while maintaining a safe, positive, and orderly environment. Promotes student safety by operating school buses in accordance with state laws, district policies, and established transportation procedures.
Qualifications- Must be able to pass a specified physical exam annually, be able to obtain and retain a Commercial Driver's License, class B-PS with no air brake restrictions.
- Must be capable of operating all fleet vehicles used for transporting the students of Dexter Community Schools.
- Must be capable of backing and turning around vehicles that are 35 feet or longer.
- Must be able to understand mechanical functions, and report vehicle defects.
- Must be able to deal effectively with children and parents.
- Must be able to control the bus and students at the same time.
- Must learn and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Must be willing to learn and perform new skills.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Assures the safety of passengers at all times.
- Attendance and punctuality to assignments required.
- Ability to bend, lift and perform overhead work.
- Maintains discipline on the school bus as according to policy and offers due process to all students and follows through with appropriate documentation when needed.
- Perform daily inspections, fuel and maintain all fluid levels at appropriate levels and report defects immediately on the appropriate form.
- Comply with pick-up and drop-off locations and times.
- Continually update your route description and indicate by initialing weekly.
- Report all accidents immediately.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of Michigan Vehicle Code, Pa187.
- Comply with the district policies, procedures, transportation handbook and the beginning school bus driver manual.
- Comply with all directives from supervisors whether written or verbal.
- Ensure mirror system alignment.
- Attend training and meetings as required.
- Uses common sense and good judgment when making decisions out of the normal routine.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Frequently enters and exits the school bus throughout the workday.
- Must be able to bend, lift, reach overhead, and assist students when necessary.
- Must be able to safely evacuate students during emergency situations.
- Works indoors and outdoors in varying weather, traffic, and road conditions.
- Requires prolonged sitting while operating a commercial vehicle and occasional standing, walking, and lifting.
