Salary Range: $54,500 to $71,500 (45 to 55 hours)
Yearly Boot Allowance: $300
Shift: Monday-Friday 6a-finish (10-12 hour days)
Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and truck type. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up service for containers filled with waste or recyclable material, often weighing over 1,000 pounds, and may need to maneuver wheeled containers to a pick‑up stage.
They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, utilizing highly skilled backing maneuvers. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuvering vehicles in residential environments, and perform similar heavy‑traffic navigation. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, operating on industrial routes and tight overhead environments.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and document checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Collaborate with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets, excessively heavy receptacles, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
- 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and physical.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with air‑brake endorsement or CDL Class B with air‑brake endorsement.
