Tax Manager - Public Accounting
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join a growing public accounting firm serving small to lower middle-market businesses and their owners. This role is ideal for a motivated tax professional with a strong technical background in business and individual taxation, excellent client relationship skills, and a desire to mentor staff while contributing to the firm's continued growth. The successful candidate will manage an existing portfolio of clients while helping develop the firm's tax practice and supporting the professional growth of junior team members.
Manage a portfolio of business and individual tax clients, ensuring exceptional client service and timely delivery of engagements.
Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns, including:
- S Corporation (Form 1120S)
- Partnership (Form 1065)
- Individual (Form 1040)
Provide proactive tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to closely held businesses and their owners.
Build and maintain strong client relationships while serving as a trusted business advisor.
Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff and seniors through training, coaching, and technical guidance.
Review work prepared by staff to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to firm standards.
Research tax issues and provide practical solutions for clients.
Collaborate with firm leadership to improve processes and enhance client service.
Contribute to business development efforts by identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships and attract new business.
Support the firm's long-term growth initiatives and participate in leadership development.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation required.
5-7+ years of progressive public accounting experience.
Experience working in a small to mid-sized public accounting firm serving small and lower middle-market businesses.
Strong technical expertise in preparing and reviewing Forms 1120S, 1065, and 1040.
Experience working with closely held, founder-owned businesses and their individual tax matters.
Excellent knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Outstanding communication and client relationship management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Previous experience supervising or mentoring tax professionals.
Business development mindset with an interest in growing a client portfolio.
Leadership qualities and a long-term interest in partnership opportunities.
Preference for an in-office work schedule to support collaboration, staff development, and team building.
