Base pay range

$90,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr

Position Overview:

The Underwriting Manager primary responsibilities include guiding the underwriters to daily, weekly and monthly production goals, while ensuring the quality and integrity of the loans are maintained. The Underwriting TM will be responsible for having one–on-one coaching sessions with the team members to instill awareness of the team member’s goals, any challenges or areas of focus, and ensuring opportunities are addressed with a plan identified for success.

The TM will serve as a communication liaison to ensure that changes are effectively communicated to their team members and as an escalation path for underwriter decisions. Candidates must possess a strong sense of urgency with an ability to work in a team environment, maintaining excellent organizational, communication, and PC skills.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Manage and lead a team consisting of 10-15 Underwriters
  • Manage daily production and quality expectations to achieve monthly business goals and quality service levels
  • Perform random reviews of initial credit decisions to ensure accurate disposition and track relevant feedback per licensing regulations
  • Collaborate and calibrate with other Underwriting Managers to ensure and best practices and lessons learned are shared
  • One-on-One coaching, weekly or as needed, for team members who are not meeting the production and/or quality expectations (document, track, and inform Quality and Unit Manager of any recurring performance issues)
  • Hold daily huddles to discuss results from previous days, changes, provide feedback, etc.
  • Function as a SME and lend assistance for questions and scenarios
  • Send daily production emails with quality/production tips, current production challenges, plans to maintain SLAs, etc.
  • Ensure trends are provided to Quality and Unit Manager for implementation of job aids, training tool updates, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of lender and investor requirements
  • Review and assist in resolving in-line QC or post-closing issues as they relate to underwriting
  • Ensure that relevant action plans are followed and completed
  • Assist Processors/Loan Officers in understanding underwriting decisions and conditions
  • Calibrate with Unit Manager and Processing Managers to ensure adequate support and coverage is available to meet monthly targets
  • Oversee that loan assignments are compliant with licensing requirements
  • Monitor and approve timecards in ADP
  • Address personnel issues with guidance from Unit Leader and Human Excellence team, as necessary
  • Complete performance reviews
  • Ensure no Personal and/or Proprietary Information (PPI) is present in team area
  • Manage team members to deliver a consistently exquisite experience for the client’s customers by meeting customer satisfaction objectives, and ensure monthly initial credit decisions are completed within established SLA target
  • Manage risk and quality by ensuring team members are properly licensed, ensuring In-line QC and post-closing audit results are within established targets, and loan decisions are compliant with ECOA regulations
  • Manage daily productivity of the team to achieve established daily average dispositions per day (initial credit approvals, declines, counter offers, etc.)
  • Document monthly conversation with team members, as well general huddles held, and/or specific feedback/direction given to the team member
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and model behaviors which value each individual for their unique contribution and create an environment that allows each employee to reach their potential
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2+ years Conventional Underwriting experience
  • Underwriting experience within past 3 years
  • Thorough working knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines and automated underwriting engines
