YWCA MALDEN CENTER FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIESASSISTANT GROUP LEADER

YWCA Malden is an innovative community-based organization with a mission of Empowering Women and Eliminating Racism. The organization’s unique programs are targeted to underserved low-income women, girls, and families of color in the urban community of Malden, Massachusetts.

Position Description and Responsibilities:

Must be available Monday–Friday, 1:30 PM–6:00 PM on school days.

During school vacations, summer, and school closures, must be available for an 8-hour shift between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. $17.50/hour with paid time off.

The Assistant Group Leader supports the daily operation of YWCA Malden’s school-age programs by providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children in grades K–5. The position requires the ability to actively supervise children, participate in planned activities, and build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Actively engage and interact with children to support their positive social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Supervise children in both small and large groups while maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
    • Assist with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that reflect children's interests and developmental needs.
    • Work collaboratively with program staff to establish and maintain program goals, routines, and expectations.
    • Follow all YWCA policies and applicable EEC licensing requirements and regulations.
    • Safely supervise children during school bus transportation.
    • Maintain positive and professional communication with children, parents/guardians, teachers, and coworkers.
    • Support a program environment that respects and celebrates diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.
    Qualifications
    • Must be 16 years of age or older
      .
    • Experience working with school-age children preferred; educational background in human services, social work, education, or a related field is a plus.
    • Ability and desire to work with children in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment.
    • Demonstrated patience, enthusiasm, creativity, good judgment, and self-control.
    • Ability to follow direction, accept supervision, and work effectively as part of a team.
    • CPR/First Aid certification required, or willingness to become certified within the first 30 days of employment.
    • Ability to meet the required schedule and work extended hours during school vacations, summer, and school closures.
